Upper Mustang Trek Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at Kathamndu Airport, pick up and transfer to the hotel

Day 2 201 km driving from Kathmandu to Pokhara (900 m), 7 hours
After breakfast, we left early for Pokhara. The Kathmandu Valley roads along the Trishuli River and you can watch the rafters tackle the rapids on the river. Upon arrival in Pokhara, see the Machhapuuchhre Mountains also known as Fistail. Next, explore the lakeside bars, sail on Fewa Lake before dinner, or just relax.
Note: We normally use private vehicles and tourist buses which are too demanding.

Day 3 Flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2800m) 3 hours of walking
There is no greater adrenaline rush than the flight dodging the mountain through the Himalayas to Jomsom (2710m). After the spectacular landing in Jomsom, take some tea and time to catch your breath before going to Kagbeni. From Jomsom, the trail follows the Kali Gandaki valley to Kagbeni. Like many villages in Upper Mustang, Kagbeni has low tunnel passages which protect from the wind.

Day 4 Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3050m) 6 hours of walking
With the formalities of entry to Kagbeni, Shangri-La beckons. The new dirt road changes the road to Tangbe with its narrow streets, its whitewashed walls, its chortens and its prayer flags. After Chuksang is the lateral canyon of Narsing Khola. The sedimentary strata were dug in chimneys, turrets of organ pipes and fairy tale gullies. After a striking red canyon and a narrow parade, the route crosses the Kali Gandaki (Mustang Khola). Chele is a short climb forward.

Day 5 Trek from Chele to Syangmochen (3800m) 6 hours of walking
Another surprising day, as the route negotiates a spectacular canyon and winds through ravines. Above Chele is a deep canyon and a short descent to the largest settlement in Samar. Anyone suffering from altitude can stay here, the way to go is around 3700 meter and Geling is too far. After a pass, the night stop is generally at Syangmochen. The peaks of Damodar Himal are visible to the east.

Day 6 Trek from Syangmochen to Ghami (3520m) 4 hours of walking
The increasingly fantastic views make it yet another day to enjoy. Watch out for the big dog patrols that scold after Drak. From Syangmochen, the route continues to a chorten with a panoramic view of Geling. With its narrow streets and its monastery to visit, there is a lot of interest. The route goes up to the Nyika La pass (4010m), followed by a long and steeper descent to Ghami.

Day 7 Trek from Ghami to Tsarang (3560m) 4 hours of walking
Once the main trail to Lo Manthang has passed Tsarang, but the arrival of a nearby dirt road means that the best hiking route now goes through Drakmar. From Ghami, the path goes through a very long mani wall with a breathtaking view of the spectacular cliffs with red walls. An easy amble follows to Tsarang of medieval appearance. The ramparts with mud walls of the fortress-citadel of Tsarang dominate the village. The monastery has well restored murals and mandalas. To the east of Tsarang is the Dri Monastery, the Yara Caves and the Luri Cave Retreat. These are the main features of the Nar-Phu route via Damodar Kund, a sacred pilgrimage lake.

Day 8 Trek from Tsarang to Lo-Manthang (3800m) 5 hours of walking
Reaching the legendary walled city of Lo Manthang makes it a day full of anticipation. Leaving a ravine beyond Tsarang, a splendid Himalayan panorama to the south is revealed Annapurna I, Nilgiri and Tilicho. En route is a well photographed chorten before Lo La (3850m), a wonderful window on the fabulous walled city of Lo Manthang. It is an extraordinary scene from a medieval cinema setting, with its white houses, monasteries and palace. Dominating the city are the monasteries of Tinghar and Namgyal, as well as the village of Phuwa. The white cape of Pic Mansail rises above the barren ramparts.

Day 9 Explore Around Lo Manthnang OR Possible to Horseback Excursion
Lo Manthang is the only remaining walled city in Nepal. The chortens of Lo Manthang house relics of the Buddha. Chosar Cave and Garphu is the detour to Lo Manthang. The trail heads northeast along the decreasing waters of Mustang Khola to a long mani wall. The troglodyte village of Chosar is on the right, with the red monastery of Nyphu located in a rock wall beyond. From a chorten in front, there is a view of the colony of the Garphu monastery (3900m), count a few days around Lo Manthang. Try to visit the troglodyte villages of Choser, Nyphu and Garphu north of Lo Manthang. Namgyal Monastery and Tingkhar Palace are about an hour's walk north.
Note: You can return back from Lo Manthang to Jomsom by Jeep in a day also.
And from Lo Manthang, you have the option to descend trek to Chhusang according to your wish and group discussion with guide. You can return trek from Lo Manthang to Chhusang through the Dhakmar and Ghiling or through the Yara and Tange.

Day 10 Trek from Lo Manthang to Yara (3650) 5 hours of walking
Trek from Lo Manthang to Yara (3650m) 5 hours of walking. Start the hike leaving the village and go up an hour. The village of Dhi is reached after 3 hours of hiking then descends for a lunch break. After lunch, you can pass a small low river and climb a short steep slope to the village of Yara. Locate the countless caves with stone walls.

Day 11 Trek from Yara to Tange (3240m) 5 hours of walking
Trek from Yara to Tange (3240m) 5 hours of walking. The day is full of unusual sites - the rugged canyons of the Mustang Khola and the picturesque village of Tange - a place far from reality. The path from Tsarang to Tange descends dramatically along a colossal dry ravine, dominated by chimneys and turrets strangely eroded, to Mustang Khola. After the bottom of the valley, the path continues in the lateral valley of the Tange Khola and after several river crossings goes up to Tange. The mud-walled village is an amazing sight - a little-visited wonder of Mustang. Rows of chortens are framed by high dry sandstone cliffs and fluted with troglodyte caves.

Day 12 Trek from Tange to Chhusang (2980m) 9 hours of walking
Trek from Tange to Chhusang (2980m) 9 hours of walking. The deep gorge between Annapurna Dhaulagiri fills the view. Take a packed lunch and lots of extra water. The route climbs 900 meters from Tange. It is not an easy day from Tange to Chhusang, but the scenery is magnificent. Dhaulagiri dominates the horizon as the road climbs towards a source at Paha (4210m) and to the edge of the canyon of Narsing Khola. The scenery is fantastic with huge drop off cliffs, a series of gigantic organ pipes and features resembling turrets cascading into the warped chasm far below, like sentries guarding a lost kingdom. It is a truly incredible vision as the path descends towards Chhusang.

Day 13 Trek from Chhusang to Muktinath (3760m) 6 hours of walking
Tetang is an amazing place with a fortified appearance, in the middle of the wispy willows. The path climbs regularly to the Ghy La pass (4080m), where there is a breathtaking view of the Tilicho peak. This vast wall of ice is one of the most beautifully designed faces of the Annapurnas, with its cascading grooves. The descent is easy via the village of Chhyonkar to the main trail of Muktinath and Ranipauwa with good accommodation and food.

Day 14 Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2710m) 5 hours of walking
Today we tend to leave Muktinath. Take a pleasant walk to the village of Jharkot where we tend to visit the old Buddhist religious residence Sakyamuni and the traditional medical center. Then walk to Ekalbhatte to Jomsom.

Day 15 Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and visit of the city of Pokhara
Today we wake up early in the morning to take the morning flight to Pokhara. During the flight, we look like mountains from all angles. And visit the side of Fewa Lake and enjoy the day in the city of Pokhara.

Day 16 201 km driving from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1300m) 7 hours
Say goodbye to Fishtail and Annapurna as we begin the return to Kathamndu. And you will want to join us for a late trek dinner tonight. Before that, you have time to explore Thamel and go shopping.
